About This Piece

Acapella Hounds:

A side act at Reveller's Green; the Acappella Hounds come from a long and unappreciated houndish tradition. Somehow the idea of unaccompanied houndish baying, while absolutely fantastic, does not get the same reception as a full band.

Bon Voyage:

That first seminal of many seascape paintings – Lonely Dog stares at a departing ship. This painting began a series of explanations that would soon become tales, the legend was born.

Club Hounds:

The air is thick with snuffle-baccy smoke, and the slap of the upright bass. Time stands still as the hands cruise the keyboard without conscious thought.

Mick The Basshound:

Mick – a Trumanean Hound – has the most solid musical heritage of all the Sunshine Boys – his father and grandfather having been the leading makers of the famous Trumanean “Thrummer’s Guitars.” Mick displayed maestro capabilities from the moment of being able to pick up a guitar.

Mid Summer Madness:

Every hound, from every clan is gathered. Tents are pitched - badly! Fires are lit - too big! Structures erected - too flimsily! But who cares? The general vibe is an all round good time. The Howlers arrive in trucks and bikes and provide security for free, taking all the good spots on and around the speaker stacks. Who cares? It all works out for the best. It is Midsummer Madness.

Outrageous Gossip:

“Of course sweety daaarling!” Full of their own importance in their own eyes and the manifest inadequacies of others, a cruise through town at full critique is just the thing! Who would want to be a hound chauffeur?

The Blue Dress:

Turning every hound head on Sunset Boulevard - resplendent in vivid blue, knickerbockers at just the right height - and hounds to the left and the right. What could be better?

The Salon:

Every girl needs a little pampering, and girl cats need more than most – daily it would seem.

About Ivan Clarke & Lonely Dog

Ivan Clarke is an internationally recognised New Zealand artist based in Queenstown, with work exhibited and represented through galleries in New Zealand, Australia, the US and the UK. He is best known today for Lonely Dog — the whimsical world of Arthur “Lonely Dog” Snout and the hounds and cats of Port Alveridge — with his Lonely Dog Legacy Collection spanning over 200 original artworks. Several pieces, including the bronze sculptures, were produced in collaboration with the world-famous Wētā Workshop.
