Celebrating 15 years of Orphans Aid International, a team of 15 intrepid climbers push their limits on an eight-day climb to the roof of Africa: Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, 5,892 metres high, fundraising for children in need.
Mountain of Hope gives a behind-the-scenes look at the work of Orphans Aid International, caring for thousands of children around the globe every day. Learn what drives the team, and follow co-founder Sue van Schreven on her personal challenge to reach the summit.
"It's two kilometres higher than Mt Cook, so it's a big mountain, and the altitude really gets to you. It's not a technical climb, although there were a couple of places that were a bit tricky. Climbing Kilimanjaro symbolised the ups and downs, personal challenges and successes we've faced throughout the last 15 years with Orphans Aid International." – Sue van Schreven
Film-maker Frederick Müller scaled the mountain with his camera, making it a double feat of endurance. He and the team raised $40,000 for Orphans Aid International's work in Uganda.
Where things are now
Mountain of Hope screened on TVNZ 1 and TVNZ OnDemand. Sue later took on another mountain, trekking to Everest Base Camp in What's Your Everest?, the next film in the series. Today Orphans Aid International continues its vital work to support and care for children around the world.
