New Zealand's own Orphans Aid International celebrated an important milestone with the release of Finding Forever Families, a documentary marking ten years of rescuing and helping orphans.
Award-winning documentary maker Rob Harley says he was delighted to help Orphans Aid International show the public the incredible progress it had made in its first ten years. "Orphans Aid International is a true New Zealand aid success story. It has taken the real needs of children in other countries and actually addressed them, but not in a 'one size fits all' way."
The film is a celebration of ten years of Orphans Aid International, and a real celebration of how the children are doing now. Since opening its orphanage doors in Romania in 2004, the organisation has gone from success to success, expanding into Russia, India and Uganda while continually growing every one of its projects.
Founder Sue van Schreven says that when the first documentary, Someone, Somewhere Loves Me, was released in 2008, she never imagined it would lead to more. It was followed by The Orphan Lady, which showed supporters the progress being made in the children's lives. "To have a third documentary released is simply extraordinary, and I am thrilled to once again let our supporters see some excellent footage of the children they are helping," says Sue, who narrates this film.
Where things are now
Finding Forever Families screened on TVNZ 1 and marked Orphans Aid International's first ten years. More than twenty years on from those first days in Romania, today Orphans Aid International continues its vital work to support and care for children around the world.
