Orphans Aid wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the fantastic team of Volunteers we have who make themselves available week by week. We have over 50 Volunteers who contribute every week to the cause here in New Zealand.
Most of our Volunteers help out in our Op-Shops (Second-hand Stores) in Invercargill or Dunedin or assist in our Queenstown office. If you are cheerful, eager to learn, honest and reliable please call in to one of our shops and pick up a Volunteer Form to apply for a role.
If you would like to Volunteer here in New Zealand in other ways please don’t hesitate to contact our office.
Every week we get emails from people wanting to Volunteer in orphanages. We’d love to make an easy way for people to assist like this – but it isn’t a simple process.
With language barriers, cultural barriers and the need to protect the children, we unfortunately cannot place people on short term placements at this stage.
We know however, that there is tremendous value in visiting and volunteering at orphanage projects – particularly if you can go for a longer period of time. Orphans Aid started because someone took the time to show Sue van Schreven (Founder) around a town in Romania, and to show her the potential of what could be achieved. So we do recognise the importance of seeing the need first-hand.
In the past we have sent Volunteers, but at this time we are closed for any volunteer placements until we have staff to oversee this area. We need to make sure the Volunteer is well looked after and that there is adequate supervision in the country of placement.
In the meantime we would recommend organisations that specialise in overseas Volunteering such as Global Volunteer Network. This is also a New Zealand based organisation. Visit GlobalVolunteerNetwork.org for more information.
Please also make sure you Sign Up for our regular e-newsletter. When Volunteer opportunities become available we will let you know through this newsletter.
You can help rescue the abandoned by setting up an Automatic Payment through your bank (New Zealand only). To get started, please download our Automatic Payment Form or visit our sponsorship page our sponsorship page for more options.
" As someone who has worked in philanthropy since 1993, I think I can confidently say that I would judge Orphan's Aid as one of the most worthy organisations which has now gained a reputation for the delivery of aid overseas. The organisation has a very clear mission, and objectives and has proved itself capable of maintaining income to sustain a regular contribution to various partner organisations overseas. I know you have a clear process and system for evaluating the capability of your overseas partners."
