Today marks 3 years since the launch of the Imuka family strengthening programme in Uganda. At the same time Danielle and Peter who launched this successful initiative head back to help with those on the ground in Uganda. They'll be meeting with some of the 149 children and their families currently enrolled in one of the programmes. Happy Birthday to this life changing project.
Remember the pigs and goats we fundraised to purchase at Christmas, to enable some ongoing income? Peter and Danielle will also be working to see this area established, pens built, people trained and animals arrive. I'll keep you posted.
To give you some idea of the need with the families Imuka is helping, during January alone they gave out 20kg of nutritious porridge, 22 bars of soap, 116kgs of rice and 67kgs of beans. To all of you who have helped through sponsorship and in other ways over the last 3 years a huge thank you for standing with these very poor families.
Coffee News - We've been delighted with how our regular coffee sales have been steadily growing. Our Fair Trade coffee is roasted locally, dispatched almost straight away and proving to be a great fundraiser for our Imuka project. Please check it out further here.
While our Ugandan project turns three, our Fair Trade shop in Queenstown (Frankton) turns four! If you are in Queenstown this Monday the 13th please pop in and visit us we're celebrating with a one day SALE and cup cakes!
In other recent news our Himalayan school in the north of India has received textbooks and educational supplies from the Indian government. This is great news, as we are not a State school, it couldn't be taken for granted. The children in this region are very keen to learn. Enrolments are continuing to pour in.
This month also marks the end of the financial year. You may have received a letter from me explaining donations to Orphans Aid are eligible for tax credits here in New Zealand. I also mentioned a very generous supporter has pledged $15000 by way of dollar matching between now and the end of the month. We so far have raised approx half of this. So this month is the perfect time to give. Tax receipts are due out in April and your donation has the opportunity to be doubled. When making a donation please use your name and "Dollar Matching" in the description. We appreciate your support in this way.
Please scroll down a bit further and see some wonderful photos sent in from collectors in Wanganui today and Spook the dog collecting for us in Dunedin.
Our street appeals are currently in full swing. If you can help with an appeal in your area please connect with Vicci she would love to hear from you.
Thanks to all those around the regions who are giving of their time in this excellent way.
Please pass this email on to others who you think might be interested in this valuable work.
Have a great week!
